Introduction The Parallax SX famil y of configurable communications contro llers is fabricated in an advanced CMOS process technology. The advanced proce ss, combined with a RISC-like architect ure, allows high-speed computation, fle xible I/O control, and efficient data m anipulation. Throughput is enhanced by operating the device at frequencies up to 75 MHz and by optimizing the instruc tion set to include mostly single-cycle instructions. reliable performance for time-critical applications. In addition, the SX arch itecture is flash-based and therefore r eprogrammable. On-chip functions includ e a generalpurpose 8-bit timer with pre scaler, an analog comparator, a brown-o ut detector, a watchdog timer, a power- save mode with multi-source wakeup capa bility, an internal R/C oscillator, use r-selectable clock modes, and highcurre nt outputs. These features enable the S X to be used as a general-purpose, high -speed microcontroller in a variety of applications.
