The device f eatures a serial interface and software protocol allowing operation on a simpl e two wire bus. The bus operates at 400 KHz all the way down to 1.8V. Three de vice select inputs (S0–S2) allow up t o eight devices to share a common two w ire bus. A Write Protect Register at th e highest address location, FFFFh, prov ides three write protection features: S oftware Write Protect, Block Lock Prote ct, and Programmable Hardware Write Pro tect. The Software Write Protect featur e prevents any nonvolatile writes to th e device until the WEL bit in the Write Protect Register is set. The Block Loc k Protection feature gives the user fou r array block protect options, set by p rogramming two bits in the Write Protec t Register. The Programmable Hardware W rite Protect feature allows the user to install the device with WP tied to VCC , write to and Block Lock the desired p ortions of the memory array in circuit, and then enable the I
