The device features a serial interface and software protoc ol allowing operation on a simple two w ire bus. Three device select inputs (S0 –S2) allow up to eight devices to sha re a common two wire bus. A Program Pro tect Register at the address location F FFFh provides three program protection features: Software Program Protect, Blo ck Lock Protect, and Hardware Program P rotect. The Software Program Protect fe ature prevents any nonvolatile writes t o the device until the PEL bit in the P rogram Protect Register is set. The Blo ck Lock Protection feature allows the u ser to individually block protect four blocks of the array by programming two bits in the Program Protect Register. T he Programmable Hardware Program Protec t feature allows the user to install th e device with PP tied to VCC, program t he entire memory array in circuit, and then enable the hardware program protec tion by programming a PPEN bit in the P rogram Protect Register.
