INTRODUCTION:
The AF4064 is a complete constant-current/
constant –voltage linear charger for single cell
lithium-ion batteries. Its SOT package and low
external component count make the AF4064
ideally suited for space limited portable
applications.
Furthermore, the AF4064 is specifically designed
to work within USB power specifications.
No external sense resistor is needed, and no
blocking diode is required due to the internal
MOSFET architecture. Thermal feedback
regulates the charge current to limit the die
temperature during high power operation or high
ambient temperature. The charge voltage is fixed
at VFLOAT, and the charge current can be
programmed externally with a single resistor
connected between PROG pin and GND. The
AF4064 automatically terminates the charge cycle
when the charge current drops to 1/10th the
programmed value after the final float voltage is
reached.
When the input supply (wall adapter or USB
supply) is removed, the AF4064 automatically
enters a low current state, dropping the battery
drain current to less than 2A. The AF4064 can
be put into shutdown mode, reducing the supply
current to 25A.
Other features include charge current monitor,
undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge and a
status pin to indicate charge termination.

TYPE(1) DESCRIPTION AND REQUIRED COMPONENTS
Open Drain Charge Status Output. When the
battery is being charged, the CHRG pin is pulled low
O by an internal N-channel MOSFET switch. When the
AF4064 detects an undervoltage lockout condition,
CHRG pin is forced high impedance.
I Ground Terminal.
Charger Power Stage Current Output and Battery
Voltage Sense Input. BAT pin provides charge
current to the battery and regulates the final float
voltage. An internal precision resistor divider from
this pin sets the float voltage which is disconnected
I/O in shutdown mode. Connect the positive terminal of
the battery to BAT pin. Bypass BAT to GND with
10F to 47F capacitor. BAT pin draws less than
2A current in shutdown mode (RPROG not
connected) or sleep mode.
Charger Positive Input Supply Voltage and
Internal Supply. VCC is the power supply to the
internal circuit. VCC can range from 4.5V to 6.5V and
I should be bypassed with at least a 4.7F capacitor.
When VCC drops to within 80mV of the BAT pin
voltage, the AF4064 enters low power sleep mode,
dropping BAT pin’s current to less than 2A.
Charge Current Program, Charge Current
Monitor and Shutdown Pin.
The charge current is programed by connecting a 1%
accuracy metal film resistor RPROG from this pin to
GND. When charging in pre-conditioning mode, the
PROG pin voltage is regulated to 0.1V. When
charging in constant-current mode, the PROG pin
voltage is regulated to 1V.In all modes during
charging, the voltage on PROG pin can be used to
measure the charge current as the following formula:

O The PROG pin can also be used to shut down the
charger. Disconnecting the program resistor from
ground allows a 0.15A current to pull the PROG pin
high. When it reaches the 1.21V shutdown threshold
voltage, the charger enters shutdown mode,
charging stops and the input supply current drops to
25A.
This pin is also clamped to approximately 2.4V.
Driving this pin to voltages beyond the clamp voltage
will draw currents as high as 1.5mA. Reconnecting
RPROG to ground will return the charger to normal
operation.
