Overview
RT8816A Dual-Phase PWM Controller with PWM-VID Reference 1 General Description The RT8816A is a 2/1-phase synchronous Buck PWM controller optimized f or high-perf ormance graphic microprocessors and supports the nVidia OVR2 specif ication with a PWM-VID interf ace.
The IC integrates a Constant-On-Time (COT) PWM controller, two MOSFET drivers with internal bootstrap diodes, as well as channel current balance and protection f unctions, including overvoltage protection (OVP), undervoltage protection (UVP), current limit, and thermal shutdown, all within a WQFN-20L 3x3 package.
The RT8816A adopts an RDS(ON) current sensing technique f or current limit, which is accomplished through continuous inductor current sensing, while RDS(ON) current sensing is used f or accurate channel current balance.
This method of current sampling utilizes the best advantages of each technique.
Features of the RT8816A include an external ref erence input and PWM-VID dynamic output voltage control, where the f eedback voltage is regulated to track an external input ref erence voltage.
Other f eatures include an adjustable switching f requency, dynamic phase number control, internal sof t start, power good indicator, and enable f unctions.
The recommended junction temperature range is −10C to 105C.
